We consider each cleaning and exam a central part of what we do at Kid’s Dental of Colorado. While you may personally have had negative experiences at the dentist’s office, we are focused on making sure your children remember their visits to the dentist quite differently. We are always searching for ways to make routine dental exams and cleaning appointments interesting and relaxing while delivering the high-quality care your child deserves.
What Happens During a Cleaning?
First, you and your child arrive at our office and check in with our staff. If you have never been to our office before, we will be happy to give you and your family a tour. Our hygienists make sure our patients are comfortable in our treatment chairs and also that they are satisfied with the choice of entertainment on our ceiling-mounted TVs. They can lean back and let all of their worries disappear. Young children are more than welcome to have their parent accompany them throughout the visit ― that is up to you and your child.
During the cleaning portion of the visit, we brush and polish your children’s teeth as well as gently remove built-up plaque in between teeth and along the gum line. We clean the hard-to-reach spaces like the back molars, ensuring all bacteria is removed prior to the dental exam.
What Happens During an Exam?
Once the cleaning is finished, we conduct an in-depth exam of the teeth and gums. We look for signs of decay and check for malocclusion, or “bad bite.” While many of our conclusions can be reached with only a visual inspection, we also may take digital X-rays to see what’s going on beneath the gum line. This can help us further diagnose issues that may have gone unnoticed.
Following the exam, our team will communicate with both parent and child about the condition of their teeth and let you know if he or she needs any special follow-up visits to take care of dental issues. We offer suggestions for improving at-home dental care and answer any questions either of you may have.
How Often Should You Schedule Dental Checkups?
It is recommended that both children and adults visit the dentist at least once every six months for a cleaning and exam. This regular maintenance schedule can truly limit the number of problems that arise over the course of a child’s oral development.
You can trust Kid’s Dental of Colorado to transform your idea of a scary dental appointment into a welcoming event your child will look forward to twice a year.
